Capacity Additions—Biopower

American Renewables’ 100-MW biomass power project in Gainesville, Florida is under construction. The facility plans to consume logging and sawmill residues. It is scheduled to be operational in late 2013.

The 75 MW wood-to-electricity Burgess BioPower plant is under construction in Berlin, NH on the site of a former Fraser Papers pulp mill. The Cate Street Capital project has a 20-year agreement to sell power to Public Service Company of New Hampshire. It is expected to consume 750,000 tons of low-grade wood annually and to be operational by 2013.

The East Texas Electric Cooperative (ETEC) has signed a design-procure-construct contract with Gemma Power Systems to complete a 49.9 MW biomass power plant in Woodville, Texas. While some final regulatory requirements must be met, the plant is scheduled for completion in December 2014.

North Star Renewable Power plans a 24-MW biopower plant in Wadley, Georgia, which will consume 134,000 of forest products a year and is estimated to begin operations in 2013.

WGS Energy plans a 35-MW biomass power plant in Twiggs County, Georgia. The facility plans to consume “unmerchantable hardwoods” and is estimated to begin operations in late 2012.
