Comments Due August 11, 2011 for EPA’s Proposed Rulemaking on 2012 Renewable Fuel Standards and 2013 Biomass-Based Diesel Volume for Renewable Fuel Standard program (RFS2)

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:  Comments for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2012 Renewable Fuel Standards must be received on or before August 11, 2012.

The EPA has proposed cellulosic biofuel volumes and annual standards for biofuel, biomass-based diesel, advanced biofuel and renewable fuels that would apply for all gasoline and diesel produced or imported in 2012 (see the EPA's Regulatory Announcement).  Also proposed is an applicable volume of biomass-based diesel (BBD) for 2013 and beyond. This action would also present changes to the RFS2 regulations that are designed to clarify existing provisions and address several unique circumstances that were not previously addressed in the RFS2 program since it became effective July 1, 2010:

  • Clarify certain provisions that have created confusion among some regulated parties
  • Clarify the application of certain provisions to unique circumstances
  • Provide greater specificity in the definition of certain terms

Entities that will be affected by the action are involved with the production, distribution, and sale of transportation fuels, including gasoline and diesl fuels or renewable fuels such as cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel. You can obtain further information about these proposed standards and submit your comments here.
