Pete Stewart Presented with Staff Award at FRA Annual Meeting

Forest2Market's President and CEO, Pete Stewart, received the Staff Award at the Forest Resources Association's 2010 Annual Meeting for his support of the organization and its goals.

According to FRA President Richard Lewis, the Staff Award recognizes a member who has stepped in beyond the call of duty to make the FRA a more effective organization, generally by filling a need the staff is not equipped to fill. "Associations like ours have limited staffs and resources. As a result, we rely on our members to assist us. Stewart did this over and over again in the last year."

Among the services Stewart was recognized for were his continual offers to put Forest2Market's capabilities behind the FRA, including an offer to keep the Western statistics program running during a staff transition. In addition, Stewart was involved in discussions about the emerging biomass issue. FRA Director of Communications Neil Ward observed, "Pete not only helped us clarify conflicts, but he also helped us move beyond the easy dogmas toward a more nuanced understanding of what biomass will mean for the industry."

"The only thing that is greater than my appreciation to the staff of the FRA for this award," said Stewart, "is my surprise at winning it. I belong to and work with the FRA because we have a common mission, the long-term productivity and sustainability of our forests and forest products industries. I look forward to working with the FRA and its experienced and tireless staff for many, many years."

In presenting the award, Lewis thanked Stewart for actively participating in FRA's policy deliberations and committee meetings, where he "offers counsel, advice, money and assistance with project-related work."

The FRA Staff Award was created in 2005. Past recipients include John Manz of Weyerhaeuser, Gary Reeve of Ponderay Newsprint, Steve Brown of Glatfelter, Hinton Davis of Davis-Garvin Companies, and Dick Carmical of Price Industries.
